The Rutgers Reverb is our first vintage inspired amp. An homage to a mid-sixties classic, the single channel Rutgers Reverb pumps out 23 watts through a 12" Eminence speaker housed in a solid pine cabinet. For basic controls, it has Volume, Treble, Bass, and Middle. Built-in effects include tube-driven spring reverb and foot-switchable bias modulating tremolo. The tube lineup consists of 12AX7s (2), 12AT7s (2), 5881s (2) and GZ34 rectifier.
We've made several changes to the original design to improve reliability and performance. Enhanced low frequency filtering and the 12" speaker help to rein in the bottom end-it's fat, clear and authoritative. The addition of the wide-range Middle control allows for the familiar scooped sound or increased mid-range punch. The layout has been reorganized and converted to "Star" grounding for extremely quiet operation. Additional noise reduction improvements include shielded grid wiring and a DC elevated heater supply. To meet the increased power demands, both the power and output transformers have been beefed up. The Rutgers Reverb will run 5881s or 6L6s. A quick rebias is all that is needed to switch tubes, and this is easily accomplished with the included adjustable bias feature. A rugged 12AT7 has taken over the phase inverter duties to better suit the larger output tubes. Although still a cathodyne phase inverter, the 12AT7 offers greater signal swing and headroom than the original 12AX7.
From crystalline cleans to classic crunch, the Rutgers Reverb captures the soul of the past with a few modern twists. We're proud to offer it in our line of hand-wired amps.
