Our string block was born out of a desire to make construction more streamlined. After doing some research, we discovered that Leo Fender had already introduced a similar plastic block on certain G&L guitars. Ours is a little different from Leo's in that it is made from 6061 aluminum or brass.

Our new design adds more mass and a "lip" around the top edge. This helps hide any paint or router imperfections that would be visible with our previous flush-mount design.

Our ferrule blocks feature a .25" radius on both ends. This allows the slot in the back of the guitar to be cut using a .5" diameter router bit with a shank mounted guide bearing (not included).

This is the same passive tone control that we use in our guitars. It's similar to the Gibson Varitone switch in function. We use a quality 6-position switch that features five frequency settings in addition to true bypass. Our design is vintage correct and a true notch filter. A "two wire" Varitone is not a proper notch filter. See the picture below for the difference in frequency response. The Pentatone switch comes pre-assembled and ready to install--just connect the the signal and ground wires. Purchase includes chicken-head knob, 6 number dial plate and the switch.

The switch diameter is 1.125". The depth under the mounting surface is about 1.175". The inductor is a .75" cube which is a attached to the switch with a couple inches of lead wire on either end.

The Tetratone is similar to the Gibson Varitone switch in function. We use a quality Grigsby 5-position switch that features four frequency settings in addition to true bypass. Our design is vintage correct and a true notch filter. The Tetratone switch comes pre-assembled and ready to install--just connect the input signal and output signal and ground wires.
